1. Introduction

 

Welcome to TEO Academy Ltd ("TEO Academy”, "we”, "us”, or "our”).
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms”) govern your use of our online platform, which connects learners ("Students”) with independent educators ("Tutors”) for educational services.

 

By creating an account, booking a lesson, or otherwise using the platform ("Service”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

 


 

2. Eligibility

 

  • You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter a binding contract.

  • Users under 18 must have a parent or guardian’s explicit consent and supervision.

  • By using our Service, you confirm that you meet these requirements.

 


 

3. Nature Of Our Service

 

TEO Academy is an intermediary platform. We do not employ Tutors; they are independent contractors responsible for the lessons they deliver.
We are not liable for the conduct, content, or outcomes of lessons, except as required by UK law.

 


 

4. Account Registration

 

  • Accuracy: You must provide true, accurate, and current information during registration and keep it updated.

  • Security: You are responsible for safeguarding your password and for all activities under your account.

  • Single Account: One account per individual is permitted. Corporate accounts have separate rules (see clause 5).

 


 

5. Corporate Accounts

 

Corporate Clients purchasing access for multiple learners are responsible for:

 

  • Ensuring employees or delegates comply with these Terms.

  • Creating, managing, and terminating accounts.

  • Complying with all applicable data protection laws.

  • Accepting liability for breaches committed by authorised users.

 


 

6. Discounted Trial Lessons

6.1 Purpose

 

A trial lesson allows a Student to assess whether a Tutor’s teaching style and approach are a good fit before committing to regular lessons.

 

6.2 Conditions

 

  • Duration: 30 minutes (shorter than standard lessons of 50+ minutes).

  • Rate: Lower than the Tutor’s usual lesson price.

  • Limit: One trial lesson per Tutor, maximum of three different Tutors per Student at the reduced rate.

  • Tutor Choice: Tutors may choose whether to offer discounted trial lessons.

 

6.3 Fair Use Policy

 

TEO Academy provides this trial lesson option as part of our satisfaction guarantee. There is a reasonable expectation that Students will not abuse this policy.

 

  • Students may not book multiple discounted trial lessons with the same Tutor.

  • Students may book discounted trial sessions with a maximum of three tutors. 

 

6.4 Expectations For Students

 

  • Come prepared with questions.

  • Try to be aware of your preferred learning style if possible.

 

6.5 Expectations For Tutors

 

  • Introduce yourself, your teaching style, and methodology.

  • Explain your lesson process and how to book further sessions.

  • Recommend the most suitable lesson type (e.g., Academic English, Business English, General English, English for Travel).

 

All bookings and payments for trial lessons must be processed through the platform.

 


 

7. Tutor Responsibilities

 

Tutors agree to:

 

  1. Qualifications & Experience – Accurately represent qualifications, experience, and expertise.

  2. Lesson Preparation – Deliver well-prepared, relevant lessons in line with the Student’s goals.

  3. Safeguarding – Comply with UK safeguarding requirements and report concerns appropriately.

  4. Data Protection – Handle personal information in line with GDPR.

  5. Communication – Respond promptly and professionally to Student messages.

  6. Cancellations – Give at least 12 hours’ notice when cancelling to avoid disruption.

  7. Intellectual Property – Use only lawful, licensed materials, including those provided by TEO Academy.

  8. Professional Conduct – Maintain respectful, inclusive, and ethical interactions.

 


 

8. Student Responsibilities

 

Students agree to:

 

  1. Punctuality – Arrive on time for lessons.

  2. Preparation – Bring necessary materials and information.

  3. Respectful Conduct – Communicate politely and professionally.

  4. Technology Readiness – Ensure devices, software, and internet connection are functional before lessons.

  5. Cancellations – Provide at least 12 hours’ notice to cancel without penalty.

  6. Use Of Platform – Book and pay for all lessons via the platform.

 


 

9. Payments And Payouts

 

9.1 Payment Processing

 

  • Payments are held in escrow until the lesson is completed.

  • We use third-party payment processors to handle transactions securely.

  • All prices are shown in the currency selected on the platform.

 

9.2 Student Payments

 

  • Payment is required at the time of booking.

  • Payment is subject to the tutors set rate.

     

  • Payment includes Platform commission fees and Tutor remuneration. (I.e we do not charge students a commission to use the platform; all commission is paid by the tutor aka the 'seller')

 

9.3 Tutor Payouts

 

  • Tutors receive payouts after the lesson is marked as completed in the platforms systems.

  • Payout processing times may vary depending on the payment provider.

 

9.4 Disputes

 

  • If a Student disputes a charge, we will mediate in line with our Refund Policy.

  • TEO Academy’s decision in disputes is final.

 


 

10. Refund Policy

 

Refunds are available if:

 

  • The Tutor fails to attend a booked session.

  • Technical issues on TEO Academy’s side prevent the lesson.

  • The Tutor cancels and rescheduling is not possible.

 

Refunds are not available if:

 

  • The Student misses a lesson.

  • Cancellation occurs within 12 hours of the start time.

  • The Student is dissatisfied with a Tutor’s style (the paid trial lesson exists for this purpose).

  • The Student experiences internet or device issues on their side.

 

Trial lessons follow the rules in Section 6.

 


 

11. UK Law And Tax Obligations

 

  • TEO Academy operates under the laws of England and Wales.

  • Tutors are independent contractors and are responsible for their own tax reporting, National Insurance contributions, and compliance with HMRC requirements.

  • In line with the law of England and Wales tutors will be asked to provide certain details relating to tax. Tutors will be contacted for this individually. 

     

  • Students are responsible for ensuring they comply with any applicable local tax laws related to the Service at their end.

 


 

12. Prohibited Activities

 

Users may not:

 

  • Harass, abuse, or harm others.

  • Misrepresent identity or qualifications.

  • Circumvent the platform to arrange lessons or payments outside TEO Academy. We cannot guarantee the safety of financial information if you do. 

  • Upload or distribute unlawful content.

 


 

13. Termination

 

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts for breaches of these Terms or for behaviour that, in our reasonable opinion, harms the integrity of the platform.

 


 

14. Limitation Of Liability

 

To the extent permitted by law, TEO Academy is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, loss of data, or loss of income resulting from use of the Service.

 


 

15. Indemnification

 

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless TEO Academy against any claims, damages, or costs arising from your breach of these Terms or misuse of the Service.

 


 

16. Governing Law

 

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

 


Language And Legal ReferencePlease note that the English-language version of these Terms and Conditions constitutes the sole legal reference under the Law of England and Wales. Any translations provided, whether on the Platform or by third parties, are for convenience only and may contain errors, omissions, or misinterpretations. TEO Academy accepts no responsibility or liability for any such discrepancies.
