A trial lesson is designed to help a student determine if a tutor is the right fit for their learning needs. It is offered at a reduced rate compared to a standard lesson.
Students may book one trial lesson per tutor, up to a maximum of three tutors at the reduced rate. Tutors do however, have the discretion to decide whether to offer the discounted trial lesson option or not.
Students are encouraged to come prepared with questions and a clear understanding of their preferred learning style to make the most of the session.
Tutors should use this time to introduce themselves, explain their teaching style, and outline how they work. They should also guide the student toward the most suitable follow up lesson type—whether that’s Academic English, Business English, General English, English for Travel, or another focus.
The aim is to help students feel confident in continuing their learning journey. Tutors can explain how further lessons can support the student’s goals.
Trial lessons are 30 minutes long, shorter than the usual 50+ minute lessons, providing a concise yet valuable opportunity to explore the tutor’s approach.
TEO provides a platform for these services and there is a reasonable expectation that both tutors and students will use the trial lesson policy fairly. This means adhering to the maximum of three trial lessons at the reduced rate.
